Spread over 76 hectares not far from the city centre. The gardens accommodate the head office of the South African National Biodiversity Institute and have successfully bridged the gap between scientific research and the recreational environment. Open 365 days a year, the gardens showcase our beautiful indigenous plant life, whilst also providing a home for more than 198 bird species, a number of reptiles and small mammals such as the common duiker. Special features are the tree wisteria (Bolusanthus speciosus) avenue and the collections of medicinal plants, cycads, aloes, tree species, succulents and natural ridge vegetation. Garden picnic concerts are held in the gardens from May to September.
