A Tshwane Tourism Action Team, launched in October 2008, has been working hard to create long term tourism development and marketing projects. To date a business and ten point action plan with measurable performance indicators has been developed. Furthermore, a tourism brand for Tshwane, a tourism website and a visitors brochure have been developed. All the groundwork for a regional tourism organisation has been completed with the formation of the Tshwane Tourism Organisation on the cards for later this year.
This team consists of, among others, Mike Gcabo of Ekim as chairman, Professor Ernie Heath of the University of Pretoria's Tourism Department, Tembeka Mhlekwa of the City of Tshwane's Economic Development Department, Jacob Mahalangu and Wouter Koekemoer of the city's tourism division and Prem Gangiah and Franco Jordaan of the Tshwane Tourism Association, Women of Tshwane in Travel & Tours, Tshwane Township B & B and various other tourism establishments are represented. Martin van Niekerk and Ben Rootman of Junxion Communications operate the secretariat.
